Custom Concrete Landscape Curbing
Concrete curbing creates clean, crisp lines between flowerbeds and other areas. It is most visible between a lawn and the adjoining garden, but landscape edging can define a flower border, a shrub bed, a single tree, or the transition from a patio to the surrounding garden. It also helps to keep mulch from migrating off your flowerbeds while simultaneously keeping turf grass from invading decorative garden areas.

Ground Preparation
We mark the whole line in paint first and you walk it with Shaden. Then about a foot of turf comes out and the base gets compacted on undisturbed ground, not loose fill. This is the step that decides whether your curb is still straight in fifteen years.

Curbing Installation
The machine extrudes a near-dry mix in one unbroken line at walking pace. No forms, no seams, no joints for grass to find. Color is already in the mix so it runs all the way through, and any stamped pattern goes in while it is still wet.

Border Maintenance
Control joints get cut so movement cracks where we put it, rain gaps go in at the low points, then cure-and-seal over the whole run. We walk you through mowing it and when to reseal before we leave.
But Wait, There's More
We don't exclusively do curbing. Mulching, stone, sod, irrigation and outdoor living too.

Mulch that will not stay put
One heavy windward rain and half the bed is on the lawn. A raised curb face holds it where you put it.
Grass creeping into the beds
St. Augustine and paspalum run above ground on stolons. They have to climb a vertical face to get in, and mostly they do not.
Plastic edging popping back up
It goes brittle in this UV, the stakes work loose, and you are pushing it back down every few months for three years until you replace it.
Trimming the same line forever
A mow strip is wide enough to run a mower wheel on. The edge cuts itself and the trimmer stays in the shed.
The honest exception: Bermuda grass. It spreads by underground rhizomes as well as surface runners, and a standard curb does not go deep enough to stop rhizomes. It will end the trimming and cut the creep way down, but you will still manage the bed edge. More on that here.

Moroccan Natural Stone
The premium end of what we do. Multi-step color, antiquing powder worked into the texture, and hand detail on every joint so the finished border looks like individually set stone rather than a single continuous pour.

Custom Stamped Edging
Integral color through the whole curb, then a pattern pressed into the surface while the concrete is still plastic. The texture is part of the curb, not a coating on top of it, so it does not wear off.

CurbColor
Pigment goes into the mix, not onto the surface. The color runs through the entire curb, so a chip or a scuff shows the same color underneath instead of bare gray.

Nobody else on Oahu publishes curbing prices. These are the rates we quote from, straight out of the estimating catalog. Move the slider and watch it.
1 How many feet of edging?
Not sure? Walk it heel-to-toe. One adult stride is close to 3 ft. Most front yards land between 100 and 200 ft.
The fastest way: pace the outside of every bed you want bordered, counting strides, then multiply by 3. Round up. Curves eat a little more than they look like they will.
Common runs: one flower bed 25–40 ft · front of the house 60–100 ft · front yard, both sides 120–200 ft · front and back 300–500 ft · a single tree ring about 10 ft.
2 Which finish?
3 What does the line look like?
Curves run slower and take more hand-finishing at every corner.
4 Anything else?
150 ft · Standard Curb
$40–$50 per linear foot
See the breakdown
- Curbing, 150 linear ft$40–$50/ft$6,000 – $7,500
- Corners and radius work (4)Some curves$80 – $140
Under 100 ft the rate steps up to $60–$75/ft. Setup, mixing and cleanup cost the same on a 40 ft run as a 400 ft one. Adding a second bed or a few tree rings on the same visit brings the per-foot price down fast.
Removal is the widest variable in here. We tighten it on site once we see what is actually coming out of the ground.
- Layout marked and walked with you before anything is cut
- Sod cut and base compacted on undisturbed ground
- Control joints cut so movement cracks where we put it
- Rain gaps cast in at the low points where drainage needs them
- Cure-and-seal on the whole run, cleanup, mulch back
A real number, not a placeholder. It is still an estimate off measurements you gave us. Access, slope, roots and what is under the sod all move it. Shaden confirms the price on site, in writing, before any work starts.
Curbing On Oahu Is Not Curbing Anywhere Else
The part a mainland crew gets wrong.
The crack everyone warns you about does not happen here
Every national article about concrete curbing has the same warning: frost gets under it, lifts it, and cracks it within a few winters. That is the number one reason people talk themselves out of it. Oahu does not freeze, so that failure mode simply does not exist here. What does cause problems locally is expansive clay on the leeward side, tree roots finding an existing weak point, and curb laid on loose fill.
A curb along your house is a dam unless you build it right
Kaneohe gets around 65 inches of rain a year onto slow-draining clay. Run an unbroken curb along a foundation and you have built a retaining wall for water. We cast half-inch rain gaps in at the low points so water passes through and mulch still stays put. A crew trained in a dry climate does not think about this.
Color does not fade. Sealer does.
Integral pigment is mixed through the concrete and made to hold up to UV. When colored concrete goes dull it is almost always the sealer breaking down. Spray it with a hose: water beads means the sealer is fine, water soaking straight in means it is time to reseal.
Salt air changes the sealer, not the concrete
The classic coastal failure is chloride reaching reinforcing steel, which corrodes and spalls the face off. Extruded curb has no rebar in it, just fiber, so that is mostly off the table. Near the water we switch to a penetrating sealer that lasts seven to ten years instead of one to two.

More About ShadenWhere We Work
Every town on Oahu. What changes side to side is not the price, it is the ground, and the ground changes how the curb gets built.
Windward Oahu
On windward Oahu the deciding factor is drainage. Kaneohe takes about 65 inches of rain a year onto weathered red clay that drains slowly, so a curb run along a foundation has to have gaps cast into it or it works as a dam.
Kapolei, Waianae, NanakuliLeeward Oahu
Leeward Oahu sits on Lualualei clay, which the USDA records as opening vertical cracks up to two and a half inches wide in dry season. It is the most curb hostile ground on the island and it is handled with thicker bedding and tighter control joints.
Ewa Beach, Ewa Gentry, Kapolei (makai)The Ewa Plain
On the Ewa plain, coral limestone bedrock sits only eight to twenty inches below the surface. You cannot trench into it, so base prep becomes bedding and leveling on rock rather than excavating.
Mililani, Wahiawa, WaipahuCentral Oahu
Central Oahu sits on Molokai series oxisol, the red dirt. It is kaolinitic rather than smectitic, which makes it a low shrink swell clay and structurally one of the better soils on the island to build a curb on.
Honolulu, Manoa, PaloloHonolulu and the valleys
In town the cost driver is access, not soil. Whether the trailer and mixer can reach the work decides the price of a Honolulu curbing job more than the footage does.

Straight Answers
How much does landscape curbing cost on Oahu?
Most residential jobs run $40 to $50 per linear foot for standard curbing, and $48 to $68 per foot with color or a stamped pattern. A typical front yard of 150 feet lands around $7,900 to $10,950. Runs under 100 feet price higher per foot, $60 to $75, because setup, mixing and cleanup cost the same whether the run is 40 feet or 400. Use the calculator on this site for a real number on your own yard.
Why is curbing more expensive in Hawaii than the prices I see online?
Most national cost guides quote $12 to $22 a foot, but those figures are for plain gray curbing on the mainland. Two things separate that from an Oahu price. First, decorative work means color and stamping, and that is its own tier nationally at $25 to $45 a foot. Second, Hawaii is the most expensive state in the country for concrete, running about 1.35 times the national average, with construction costs 20 to 40 percent above the mainland because nearly every material arrives by barge. Apply that factor to the decorative tier and you get $34 to $61 a foot, which is where our pricing sits.
Does concrete curbing crack in Hawaii?
Not the way it does on the mainland. The failure everyone has read about is frost heave. Water freezes under the curb, lifts it, and cracks it over a few winters. That does not happen here, because Oahu does not freeze. What does cause problems locally is expansive clay soil on the leeward side, tree roots exploiting an existing weak point, and curb placed on loose fill instead of compacted undisturbed ground. Control joints are cut so that any movement cracks in a straight line at a joint where it reads as part of the design, rather than randomly. No honest installer will promise concrete that never cracks.
Will curbing stop grass from growing into my beds?
For St. Augustine and seashore paspalum, yes. Both spread by stolons that run above ground, and a raised curb face is a real barrier they have to climb over into dry mulch. Bermuda grass is the honest exception. Bermuda spreads by underground rhizomes as well as surface stolons, and a standard curb does not go deep enough to stop rhizomes. If you have Bermuda, curbing will dramatically reduce the creep and end the string trimming, but you will still need to manage the bed edge. We would rather tell you that up front than have you find out in year two.
What about drainage? Will a curb dam water against my house?
It can, and this is the single most important thing to get right on the windward side. Kaneohe averages around 65 inches of rain a year onto slow-draining clay. An unbroken curb run along a foundation becomes a retaining dam. We cast half-inch rain gaps into the curb at the low points, spaced fifteen to twenty feet apart, so water passes through but mulch and rock still stay put. A crew trained in a dry climate often skips this. On Oahu it is not optional.
How long does it take, and when can I use the yard again?
Most residential jobs are one day on site. About a foot of turf comes out along the whole run, and there is a machine and a mixer working. The curb is firm within hours and you can put mulch back once it has set. Concrete reaches full strength at 28 days, so keep pets and kids off it early, and hold off mowing tight against it until the end of that period.
