Aloha my name is Shaden Aquino, I was born and raised in Kailua, Hawai'i and have lived here on O'ahu my whole life. I have always had a deep passion for landscape design. I have worked in the field for 14 years and as time passed I had a dream to open my own business, Aloha Sprinkler Systems & Outdoor Design, in 2021. I recently decided to expand and offer landscape curbing and opened my extended business, Aloha Landscape Curbing, with the intention to offer only the most quality, professional services with fair and honest pricing. Why curbing, and why now

Irrigation and outdoor design came first. Curbing came out of watching the same problem over and over on jobs that were otherwise finished: a beautiful bed with mulch washing onto the lawn every time it rained hard, and grass working its way back in from the other direction. Plastic edging went in, and two years later it was popping out of the ground.

Concrete curbing is the version of that fix you install once. The machine, the molds, the color system and the stamps are a serious piece of equipment, and it only makes sense if you are going to use it properly and often. That is the bet.

What being local actually changes

There are franchise curbing operations that run the same playbook in Boise and Phoenix and Honolulu. The machine is the same. The ground is not.

The leeward side has expansive clay that shrinks and swells enough to crack a slab. Ewa has coral hardpan under a foot of soil, so you bed on rock instead of trenching into it. The windward side takes sixty-plus inches of rain a year onto ground that drains slowly, which means a curb along a foundation is a dam unless you cast gaps into it. And the sun here eats sealer faster than almost anywhere.

None of that is in a manufacturer's training manual. It comes from fourteen years of digging in this dirt.

What we will tell you not to buy

If you rearrange your beds every couple of years, curbing is the wrong product and we will say so. If a run is behind the house where nobody looks, we will put standard finish there and save the premium for the front. If you have Bermuda grass, we will tell you up front that a curb will not stop the rhizomes underground.

A yes we talked you into is worth a lot less than a yes you are still happy about in five years.
